Sir Patterson Cheltenham brings to the role an exceptional breadth of legal, judicial, and public service experience. A distinguished legal practitioner with over forty-six years of experience, he was educated at the University of the West Indies and University College London, and was admitted to the Barbados Bar in 1978. Over the course of his career, he has built a strong reputation in insurance and public law, appearing before both the Privy Council and the Caribbean Court of Justice.
Beyond private practice, Sir Patterson has served the region in several significant capacities. He is an Accredited Mediator and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators, and has contributed extensively to public service, including seventeen years as Chairman of the VAT Appeal Tribunal. His distinguished career includes admission to the Inner Bar in 2001, the award of the Gold Crown of Merit in 2012, and a Knighthood in 2020. Most recently, he served as President of the Caribbean Community Administrative Tribunal (CCAT) and Chief Justice of Barbados from 2020 to 2024.
